Downton Abbey is the soap I was born to watch. With my parents. Every Sunday night.

Things I love about being home...
…my yelling upstairs that “THE OFFICE IS ON!” is just cause for my mother to run downstairs so we can watch, regardless of time of day or current activity. God bless syndication.

MCAT prep book humor is the driest of the...
Sometimes my MCAT review book likes to (try to) be witty. I wish I could say that I did not giggle at this one, but, alas, I cannot tell a lie. Wallace had observed the same things as Darwin had on his voyage on the Beagle, and Darwin, being the scholar and gentleman he was, forwarded Wallace’s article for publication and included a short article on his own observations. The failure of the...

The Junior List: What I Loved
Ok this one isn’t going to be a list. Just a story.  When I was in Paris in the fall, I got into the Louvre for free with my Danish residency visa. I decided to spend the entire day exploring the museum, which proved to be exhausting. I hadn’t brought a lunch, and sandwiches were too expensive, so I opted for a kinder bueno (chocolate bar) and a fanta. Some little girls at the table...

The Junior List: What I Regretted
I’m lucky enough that most of the things I regretted from my time abroad (and there aren’t too many) were a result of other decisions, events, etc. that I enjoyed. That being said: Not seeing more of the UK (…but I got to travel all over Europe instead). Not getting out more in Copenhagen (…but it was super expensive and instead I spent more time with my host family and...

The Junior List: What I Missed
Cuddling with Adam (dogs in general). Talking to my mom in the kitchen and having breakfast with my dad at Compton’s. My friends (duh).  Macaroni and cheese with ketchup. Prices at face value (not having to convert). Trucks. No really. Hulu and being able to watch anything I want on the internet.  Real pancakes (mainly at Compton’s). Ok, I really missed Compton’s. The...

The Junior List: What I Learned
Never underestimate the power of sign and body language. Always factor in time spent in (potential) traffic. I hadn’t really learned that yet because everything in Saratoga is 5 minutes away from my house.  Adding sir/madam to a request makes people feel special and more likely to help you. I’m a southern belle at heart.  Always know how much a meal is before you order it.  You...

The Junior List: Thoughts on Study Abroad
For the past two years, I believe I have put together a collection of lists - what I regretted, what I learned, etc. I’ve also done that for this past year, although my ideas are much more poorly organized (I’m not splitting Copenhagen and London up).  Study abroad is pretty much the best thing ever. If you’ve read my posts, or just skimmed the pictures, you can probably tell...

MGT Norway: A Note on Norwegian Resistance
One of the greatest things I learned while in Norway was Norway’s role during the Second World War. Norway struggled under German occupation for about 5 years, and the Norwegian resistance movement was an unbelievably powerful force during that time (although they did not succeed in saving as great a percentage of their Jewish population as the Danes). Very inspiration stuff, although the...
