MGT Bergen: The Hanseatic City
We took the funicular up for a view of the city. I guess it’s pretty or whatever. The islands to the right shelter the main land from the big bad Atlantic Ocean.

Bergen is a really cool place for a number of reasons. As an important office in the German Hanseatic League trading scheme, Bergen maintained a global reach well into the 1700s. Also, the city experienced a continuous cycle of destruction by fire and reconstruction of closely quartered wooden houses. The most recent damage to the Bryggen (dwarf) occurred during the Second World War, when a Nazi cargo ship exploded in the harbor. The blast was so intense that the anchor of the ship was found half-way up a mountain over a mile away.
